Old Business:
- Lifestyle Essentials – as noted in the packet
- Bike Master Plan - Completed and returned surveys will reach over 100 copies received today. Michele Gottschlich is tabulating the results. The Mill Creek section remains high on the priority list. Next month, things will, hopefully, be finalized. The CACC group is working with the UC Master En-gineering Program on the Mill Creek section. In April, the group will meet at the Boy Scout Center with the results from this semester’s study. The Masters Program will continue working on the plan next semester.
Director’s Report:
- The 2013 Bike Rodeo will be held in collaboration with Blue Ash this year. Blue Ash is hosting their event at the old airport location.
- The Active Adult & Senior Adult Program will host a “Prom” for the Active Adult members this Satur-day. This first-year event shows promise with over 50 people pre-registered.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
- Two volunteer events – Snow Much Fun (everyone loved all of the additions) and the Daddy Daughter Dance (a 50’s theme this year)
- The tubing and IHOP trip had around 20 kids attend, and was a great success.
- Wednesday nights have included the annual game room tournament, a pre-Super Bowl party, flag football, painted ceiling tiles, pot luck dinner, volleyball, and just hanging out in the Phi Room. The group also celebrated National Drink Out of Straw Day.
Open Discussion:
- Georgia stated the new walking trail at Gorman Farm is very nice (Rob Wight did a nice job). Stiney will invite Rob Wight and Chris Schuermann to the next meeting.
- Stiney brought in a copy of Bob Roncker’s Running Spot Newspaper which includes the Phi Lambda Pi 10K Run application/waiver.
- Stiney, also, brought news regarding the new Princeton Schools Health Care Center. The center is up and running. All agreed this is helpful for working parents and for the kids who won’t miss as much school with a doctor’s appointment; in addition to potentially catching illnesses earlier for quicker recoveries. This nurse-practitioner program will move to the new building in the Fall.
- On February 11, Sgt. Holloway, Evendale Police Dept., held an information session in the Flex Room on the topic of surviving school, or workplace, violence. He suggested everyone watch the City of Houston, TX produced YouTube video called Run, Hide, Fight. This video is very informative about surviving a workplace situation. The police and fire departments are reviewing our Emer-gency Action Plan. David, and Jim Bothe, have been in contact with a door replacement company regarding our main lobby doors. After 22 years the weather seals are failing and they require min-utes to lock. New doors would be more weather efficient, and have a panic bar lock that would only take seconds to secure the doors in an emergency lockdown situation.
- From Gus:
- Basketball program was well-run and well organized. Several teams, including my own, won the league. We may need to "recruit" other communities in the future to increase the size of the league. For example, the league did not have enough teams to form a 5th grade girls division this season.
- Father Daughter Dance was well-run and a lot of fun. Again, this is an event that we proba-bly need to publicize/advertise a little more, as numbers and attendance has dropped sig-nificantly over the last five years. Maggie and I, and Mark Thiss & Maddie, were the only 6th graders in attendance.
- I think Gorman Farms could very easily designate the top meadow as a "dog park." As a practical matter, most of us dog owners already use it as such. There should probably be some signage added for liability reasons.
- The Soccer Sportsmanship Idea. This has been in place in most soccer tournaments for many years. Basically, each team awards one player a sportsmanship patch after the game. Good idea at the younger age groups, probably not above U12/U14 soccer however.
- I have using the Evendale Fitness Center a couple times per week throughout December and January. I think L.E. employees are doing a good job maintaining the facility, but as a practical matter, that is pretty much all they do while they are there (at least in the eve-nings). In six months, I have seen "training assistance" perhaps one time, meaning the L.E. representative was assisting a member with their training regiment.
Meeting adjourned at 8:12am.
